Every licensee of the Significant Oil and Gas Fields of the United States Database receives three software tools to use in analyzing the information provided in the database. These tools for analysis are:
Nehring Associates has partnered with other vendors to develop additional tools for analysis.
Nehring Associates' query system accompanying the database enables our licensees to create quickly a broad range of field and reservoir distributions and time series. All of the building blocks are included in KnowNow - field and reservoir size distributions, field and recovery growth, reservoir rock and fluid characteristics, field and reservoir production histories, field and reservoir discovery histories, and reservoir development intensity and economics - along with field and reservoir location and composition and reservoir risk analysis. KnowNow emphasizes basic retrievals, focusing on either single variables or one-to-one relationships. It contains 15 primary and 76 total field retrievals and 36 primary and 164 total reservoir retrievals, thereby supporting a broad array of analyses. The KnowNow retrievals can be grouped geographically, geologically, and temporally. Ordering and summation options are included in the system. Every KnowNow retrieval can be exported as ACCESS, ASCII, or EXCEL files for further statistical analysis, graphing, or spatial displays. KnowNow is based on ACCESS Runtime and uses the field and reservoir master tables Nehring Associates has created for facilitating retrievals.
The help system that accompanies the database provides both a detailed description of the database and step-by-step guides to its use. All of the building blocks for analysis are discussed in the help system - field and reservoir size distributions, field and reservoir recovery growth, reservoir rock and fluid characteristics, field and reservoir production histories, field and reservoir discovery histories, and reservoir development intensity and economics. The help system shows how to do both basic and complex retrievals. It demonstrates the many possible ways the information can be grouped geographically, geologically, and temporally. It illustrates the various possibilities for ordering the data. The discussion of each general retrieval both explains the key data elements used in each retrieval and suggests fruitful ways of varying each retrieval. The help system uses the field and reservoir master tables Nehring Associates provides in both the ACCESS and EXCEL versions of the database.
Field and Reservoir Record Retrieval System KnowNow and the NRG Help system provide alternative means for retrieving distributions and time series from the database. Each licensee also receives a macro within the ACCESS version of the database for retrieving individual field and reservoir records. All of the basic field and reservoir tables - general field information, field and reservoir discovery well, reservoir rock and fluid characteristics, field and reservoir production and reserves, field and reservoir total recovery, field well count history, field and reservoir oil and gas-in-place, and reservoir post-primary recovery methods - can be retrieved for every field and reservoir in the database using this macro. This macro is organized by database region and by individual states or districts.
